This magical tour takes you on a real African journey exploring the highlights of the Panaroma Route such as God's Window, Blyde River Canyon and Bourkes Luck Potholes. We spend 2 days in the Kruger National Park and 2 days in a Private Game Reserve enjoying the very best wildlife experience South Africa has to offer. We travel through the kingdom of swaziland and take a hike in a nature reserve. The next two destinations are both World Heritage Sites: The wetland area of Saint Lucia where we take an estuary cruise and get up real close to hippo and crocodile and swim in the warm Indian ocean, then off to walk in the majestic Drakensberg Mountains in Royal Natal Park.

Depart from London (or elsewhere) on overnight flight the day before scheduled tour departure.

Day 1:  Arrive in Johannesburg -SA on overnight flight and transfer down to the Panorama. (D)

Arriving in JNB . We will collect at the airport from an overnight flight in the morning and start the transfer down the N4 in an easterly direction. We turn off and follow the route through Dullstroom towards Lydenburg and we will do some food shopping for the next few days. The afternoon will be spent exploring the attractions of the Panorama Route such as Blyde River Canyon, Bourkes Luck Potholes and God’s Window. We will arrive at our lodge in Graskop in the late afternoon and here we will be staying on a self catering basis. The guide will prepare dinner.

Day 2:  On safari in the Kruger National Park (B)

Early morning start to make the most of the day. We have a quick breakfast of  fruit, cereal or porridge and toast and from here we move on down the mountain pass to enter the Kruger National Park and home of the Big 5 and other amazing wildlife. We will spend the day in the Park (lunch at own expense) and either leave the Park at closing time and spend the night on the border of the Park. Accommodation is at a lodge in Hazyview, where we will eat dinner included in your stay.

Day 3: Kruger National Park (B, D)

Waking up early today we will spend the full day inside the Kruger on our own private safari travelling up in a northerly direction. We will make the most of the day and hopefully be rewarded with great sightings of wildlife. We will exit the park at the Orpen gate at the end of the day and make our way to our lodge close by. Tonight dinner will be included in as part of our stay, as will breakfast the next morning.

Day 4: Private Game Reserve (B, L, D)

This morning will be a little more relaxed and after a leisurely breakfast. We make our way towards the Timbavati Private Game reserve (or similar) which is still part of greater Kruger but is a private reserve. For many people this is the highlight of any trip to Africa and the beauty of being in a private reserve is it is more controlled with less vehicle than in the Kruger and also you get very close to the animals. We will drive into the reserve and to our lodge. We will stay at Umlani Bushcamp ( this is our first choice and may change depending on availability ). From here the rangers will take over and we will be in open game vehicles.  We will go out later in the afternoon for a game drive. All meals will be included during our stay here but drinks will be for your own account.

Day 5: Private Game Reserve (B, L, D)

Another day on safari in the Timbavati Game Reserve. There is typically two game drives a day, one in the early morning returning for a late breakfast and then again later for an afternoon and sunset drive. There is also an optional bush walk with the ranger. The rest of the time in between the day is spent chilling out, reading and relaxing. There is a waterhole where animals come to drink that can be viewed from the lodge.

 Day 6: Swaziland (B, D)

We will get up early once again for our last game drive in the Timbavati. Once we return and have breakfast we have a very long journey to our next destination which is Swaziland. We will also have to stop for some shopping and we have to do a border crossing as well, so have passports on hand. We travel through some beautiful landscape along the way and should reach our destination in the Malolotja Nature reserve by late afternoon. All meals here will be on a self catering basis prepared with help from your guide.

Day 7: Swaziland (B, L, D)

Today we take a hike in this beautiful mountain sanctuary. There is also an opportunity to do a canopy tour with zip lining, at your own expense. Please inform us beforehand as it requires booking in advance. It is a great day out of the vehicle to stretch your legs and take in the fresh mountain air.

Day 8: Saint Lucia (B, D)

Another big travelling day as we travel through Swaziland, the capital Mbabane and the industrial town of Manzini and then through rural Swaziland exiting in the south back into South Africa and travel to the town of Saint Lucia. We will do some more shopping on the way and stay in self catering chalets.

Day 9: Saint Lucia (B, L, D)

Saint Lucia Wetland Park is a World Heritage site and today we explore that amazing natural heritage with a boat cruise in the estuary. Here we will get up close and personal with hippos and hopefully crocs as well. Then we have a chance to visit the beach and swim in the Indian Ocean. The afternoon is ours to possible explore another part of the park, taking in more wildlife and visit the beach at Cape Vidal (own expense) and hopefully get to see the Samango monkey and other wildlife including rhinos – this is also a Big 5 area and one of the wildest towns in South Africa with hippos and leopards often visiting the area. The bird life here is fantastic because of the coastal forest and some of the highest vegetated sand dunes in the world.

Day 10: Drakensberg (B, D )

After breakfast is another long day of travelling as we travel back inland to another World Heritage site – The Drakensberg Mountains and the Royal Natal Park. We will do some shopping on the way and will be self catering for the last two nights. Prepared with help from the guide

Day 11: Drakensberg (B, L ,D)

Today we will enter the park and do some hiking. There are several different options here but a recommendedfavourite and classic walk is the Tugela gorge walk which will take most of the day. The mountains and scenery are majestic and we will pack a lunch and make the most of the day.

Day 12: Johannesburg (B)

We have time in the morning to relax and enjoy our beautiful surroundings and maybe take a morning walk before we depart for our journey back to Johannesburg. Flights out of Johannesburg that day should be scheduled for the evening from 7pm onwards not before.
